A very good friend of mine was reading Dear Abby and thought of ME (and My Special Child) when she read this.
Heaven's Special Child
A meeting was held quite far from Earth
It was time again for another birth
Said the angels to the Lord above:
"This special child will need much love
His progress may be very slow
Accomplishment he may not show
And he'll require extra care
From the folks he meets down there
He may not run or laugh or play
His thoughts may seem quite far away
So many times he will be labeled
"different, helpless and disabled"
So, let's be careful where he's sent
We want his life to be content
Please, Lord, find the parents who
Will do a special job for You
They will not realize right away
The leading role they are asked to play
But with this child sent from above
Comes stronger faith, and richer love
And soon they'll know the privilege given
In caring for their gift from heaven
Their precious charge, so meek and mild
Is heaven's very special child.
Tears......Cole is such a blessing!

That is absolutely beautiful. I can see why your friend thought of Cole.

What a beautiful child - my first born son has Erb's Palsy and we have been in Physical Therapy since he was 2 days old. We have spent many hours with wonderful children who have Cerebral Palsy. They are so special. I have a poem similar to that one about a child with a broken wing (my son's right arm was paralyzed due to a birth injury).
ReplyDeleteMakes me boo-hoo every time I read it. Thanks for this blog - it raises awareness and that's exactly what we need.
This poem made tears fall from my eyes the moment I started reading it. I have a special needs child also. My Ashton was born 3 months early, he was doing fantastic, while in the graduate nursery preparing to come home he contracted a virus which caused him to have a stroke, (he was 40 days old) it took out the whole right side of his brain. He is now 2 years old and we are working on sitting, his therapist has ordered him a stander and braces to help build strength in his stomach, trunk and legs. I understand the frustrations you are going through, and I am glad someone was able to help you. I am still trying to get my son all the equipment he needs, I know the Lord gives special kids to special parents and will be there on my road to helping Ashton as He was on yours to helping Cole! May God bless you and keep watch over your wonderful family! Sincerely Deserae
